Corina Klaassens (Netherlands) talks to us about her art, answering 10 questions, using the 5 W’s (Who, What, Where, When, Why).
Art is EMOTIONCorina Klaassens
Who are you?
Corina Klaassens, an autodidact painting artist, born on 21th of July 1968 in Amsterdam, Holland. I made a career switch in 2019 to become a teacher assistant. My love for music and passion for writing are other highlights in my life which contributed to my creativity and led me to focus on painting. For my paintings I make use of acrylic paint. Because it makes you able to express all of your creativity within a short time.
Who are your favorite artists?
Salvador Dali and Rembrandt.
What themes does your art focus on?
Natural beauty of people from all ages and cultures is what I explicitly want to record on canvas. Especially focusing on emotions is one of my greatest motives I want to exploit. And the beauty of animals.
What is your hallmark as an artist?
The paintings are as well graphic combined with realistic painted with, most of the time, big brushes.
What music or other audio do you listen to while you work?
I listen to black music: Soul, R&B, old jazz, blues, Gospel, reggae etc.
When did you decide that art was part of you and your life?
I became inspired to start with the art of drawing by my father, who died in 1985 and my passionate art teacher Mr. Maynard, at my secondary school in Amsterdam. From that moment on I always carried a drawing pencil and notepad with me.
My passion for cultures, other than my own, grew even more during my younger years, when I became more aware of the differences in the world. In April 2015 someone offered me a painter’s easel for free, and I just started to make a painting on a small canvas 40x60cm in black/grey and white on the first easter day. I showed it to my sister, who followed painting lessons for over 8 years. She thought it wasn’t fair, That I just did it. Without lessons. Every painting was one I sold. Autodidact I grew.
Where do you work on your artwork?
At home or on some ones wall.
Where would you like to see your artworks exhibited?
Around the world would be nice, so I love the opportunity that Artebinaria is offering. ( Amsterdam or Florence, wow, that would be awesome.) Loved it so much.
Why do you make art?
I wished everybody could make art in some way, it makes you SEE life, makes you free in spirit. It makes you love nature and the world. That is why I give it to the children at school. Helps the brain to develop more too.
Why do you think art is important in our society?
I think and believe that art is society, art is more than paintings, buildings, sculptures, music. It divines mankind. Who we are, what we believe, what’s in our mind and hearts, IT SHOWS US. It shows. LIFE. In many way’s. Art is EMOTION.
