WHO

Who are you?

Designer and creator, self-taught woman, owner of the brand and art workshop called BECHANN.

I find beauty and new functionalities of useless cables. I give them another, new life. I combine colours, structures in modern shapes and forms. By processing what there is I discover variety of underappreciated sources.

Therefore, I find satisfaction and fulfilment. I introduce a new way of life. I discover my inner peace. I connect thoughts and emotions with creation in a realistic form. My art works are made out of passion for creating.

Who are your favourite artists?

There are many of them, I could list endlessly. Nevertheless, if I had to choose, I would say that I am very impressed with the artistic works of Magdalena Abakanowicz, Plinio Nomellini, Andrzej Szewczyk, Yayoi Kusama and Wojciech Fangor.

What themes does your art focus on?

My artworks represent diversity of shapes and forms, created, basing on worn materials. They are also a connector between what I see and what I feel. Not only are they a fusion of the imagination, thoughts, emotions and life attitude based on respect and acceptation to surrounding world, but also one of the measures to give a new life and purpose to things that already exist.

What is your hallmark as an artist?

My artistic soul is old cables and wires as well as the beauty hidden inside of them.

WHEN

When did you decide that art was part of you and your life?

In 2018, after over 20 years of professional career in large corporations as an HR Manager, I decided to change my life and pursue my dream of creating something out of something.

I’ve always aspired to “the feeling of creating something out of something. That’s right —something out of something. Because something out of nothing is when you make something up out of thin air, in which case it has no value. Anybody can do that. But when it’s something out of something, that means it was really there the whole time, inside you, and you discover it as part of something new, that’s never happened before”.

(quoted by Etgar Keret, Suddenly, a Knock on the Door, Foksal, p. 11)

WHERE

Where do you work on your artwork?

For 3 years I have been a resident of the Art Incubator in Łódź, where I have my studio and gallery.

Where would you like to see your artworks exhibited?

I would like to show my artworks at the exhibitions all over the world. However, the greatest joy gives me a thought that my works decorate somebody’s interior.

WHY

Why do you make art?

I am unable to stop creating, maybe because a beauty of creation is like a breath of fresh air for me. And the process, when I transfer image from my mind into a sheet, gives me satisfaction and fulfilment.

Why do you think art is important in our society?

Art stops us, relaxes us, gives pause to reflection, to get to know new perspectives of seeing the world.
