WHO

Who are you?

I am Martin Kafes33 Hirth (* 1981). I have large experience as a creative artist, I’ve  graphically portrayed a number of exhibitions, posters for stage plays or visuals for music festivals and more. In 2005, I presented my artwork at La Galerie du Moment in Brussels at a collective exhibition named The European Street and later in 2018 in the streets of London as part of The London Loop project. This year my painting Amethyst was chosen for the collective exhibition called Mindfulness of the New York project named Visionary Projects. In September this year I presented my new artworks at a Prague solo exhibition called Between the curves.

My artistic expression was shaped by the free creative environment of the graffiti scene. My entire work is permeated by the fascination with lines, which I develop into an infinite variety of shapes into an abstract composition.

At the beginning of each of my paintings, there is a random blot at first glance, although there is no place on the canvas of coincidence and everything has a fixed order. Behind every line, rounding or bend and behind every shape is  a carefully thought-out concept. The layering of variant lines on an unbounded coloured area can be reconstructed retrospectively and each of the layers is slightly acknowledged and we, like archaeologists, can uncover their relics.

The complete harmony of organic structures brings a unique, even meditative experience to the viewer standing in front of my canvasses. At the same time, it stimulates the observer’s imagination and triggers chains of associations.

Who are your favourite artists?

Among Czech artists I like Petr Kvíčala, Michal Škapa, Jan Kaláb… From the world eg Erik Minter, Heatherday, Ken Kurojiro, Erik Otto, Cedrix Crespel.

What themes does your art focus on?

I don’t have a specific theme, I try to capture feelings in colors and curves.

What is your hallmark as an artist?

I like the color, the curves and the contrast between the clean line and the “dirty” curve of the spray, or the brushes …

What music or other audio do you listen to while you work?

I like to hear and feel the music… I can listen to it out loud when I can. Lately, I’ve been playing mostly records from Weval, Apparat, The Cinematic Orchestra, Jaga Jazzist, Moderat or Submotion Orchestra…

WHEN

When did you decide that art was part of you and your life?

I have been painting since I was a child, but I have been fully dedicated to creating on canvas for 3 years, it was a time when I realized that I had to dive in otherwise I could not be happy.

WHERE

Where do you work on your artwork?

I have a studio in the Czech Republic and I paint there. My family and me are currently moving to Costa Rica and I am currently working here in the open air.

Where would you like to see your artworks exhibited?

Anywhere, outdoors, indoors, in AR, at exhibitions…

WHY

Why do you make art?

Something inside me wants to create… therefore I create.

Why do you think art is important in our society?

Art brings emotions, a different view of things, develops our personality and spirituality…
