WHO

Who are you?

My name is Spiros Panourgias and I am a visual artist from Greece. My  work balances between realism and dreamlike atmosphere. I represented Greece at Florence Biennale in 2017 and have been awarded in exhibitions and competitions in Greece and abroad.

I am also the inspirer, organizer and producer of the ARTme festival.

Who are your favorite artists?

From the classic period my favorite artists are Rembrandt, Canaletto, Goya, Michelangelo.

From the contemporary period, Asimis, Angelos, Moralis, Van Gogh,  and I really love Moebius and Bilal comic novels.

What themes does your art focus on?

With my figures I’m trying to explore the human behavior and feelings, but I also enjoy painting landscapes that mix reality and surrealism. I like to create worlds that intrigue the observer, strange worlds and yet so familiar,  just like forgotten memories.

What is your hallmark as an artist?

The intense contrast of light and shadow, the realistic approach to my subjects and the fact that I never mix colors in a palette, to create the desired color, but I paint fine transparent layers of pure colors until the desired hue appears on canvas.

What music or other audio do you listen to while you work?

My music taste is wide, so I enjoy listening to jazz, blues, rock, progressive rock, indie, or even extreme metal music. It all depends on the mood of the day. But I always listen complete music albums, not compilation of artists. I think that this way I explore better the musician thoughts, mood and inspiration.

WHEN

When did you decide that art was part of you and your life?

At the age of 13 I took my first drawing and ceramic classes. It was love at first…courses. From that day on, art became not only a way of expression but also a desire for a professional career.

WHERE

Where do you work on your artwork?

I own a studio so I work there everyday. But there was times that I really enjoyed working outdoors, close to nature.

Where would you like to see your artworks exhibited?

Art biennials, galleries and festivals is where I feel like home. I wish some day some of my paintings ends up in a museum too and inspire the future generations.

Artebinaria’s achievement with augmented reality is also a very fresh and exciting way of exhibiting art  and I really believe that will conquer the heart of the art lovers and artists globally.

WHY

Why do you make art?

Art is my elixir. It’s my safe place, my way of making everyday things have meaning and myself a better human being.

Why do you think art is important in our society?

Art  generates feelings and thoughts and aims to improvement. Art is freedom!
